The only thing that’s small about nokeys is the letter case they use to write their name. All the rest is big, from their sound to their ambition. nokeys are a new wave/post punk type of band (their references scope from Depeche Mode and Joy Division to early U2 and the Smiths among others). Ever since they teamed up with SFEM, their independent Italian publisher, they’ve never stopped evolving and trying to reach higher objectives, recording and releasing a single, a promo cd and an ep, and playing numberless gigs. nokeys have a past, but they’re not very interested in it. They’re interested in their present. And their present is “the regency”, an album that contains 10 songs (8 of which in English), produced by Swedish producer Stefan Boman (Kent, Hellacopters and many other nordic acts), and mixed and mastered in Stockholm between December 2008 and January 2009. nokeys are currently looking for active people to represent them. Labels, managers, booking agencies. Anyone who is at least as committed and motivated as they are. Basically, nokeys want to present their music live. They know that having a distribution without booking and promotion is worth close to zero and they're determined to work hard in order to build up a fan base in any country. nokeys have been around for a while, so they don't have any absurd expectations. But they got very clear ideas.

Nokeys från Italien åkte till Stockholm för att spela in sin debutplatta i Kents studio med Stefan Boman (Kent, Hellacopters). Med två stadiga fötter i 80-talets mer poppiga new wave-våg och resten av kroppen i nutiden spelar de arenarock som U2, Simple Minds och The Cure brukade göra, till det har de blandat lite italienska texter, blues och ett modernt sound. I Nokeys rappresentano, senz’altro, un’eccellente dimostrazione di come, nell’ambito della musica internazionale, sia possibile confrontarsi con altre realtà musicali senza perdere le proprie caratteristiche, muovendosi nel contempo oltre i soliti stilemi ed al di là delle ben note peculiarità del modello musicale “italiano”. Tutto scivola, lubrificato, nei nostri pensieri che si fanno improvvisamente bianco-neri, i colori della scena new wave. Non poco per un gruppo italiano, ancor di più se si parla di un’attitudine sonora quasi completamente assente dalle Alpi in giù (…) Esempio massimo è la deviazione post-punk di “Eyes of a Riot”, truce nel suo ritmatissimo incedere. Non sono certo dei principianti i Nokeys da Parma. Tra tanti album che si scervellano nel tentativo di spremere un riff sensato dall’ormai prosciugata mitologia post-punk, il loro debutto sulla lunga distanza “The Regency” si segnala come uno dei dischi più godibili e curati tra tutto quelli che hanno visto la luce nell’ultimo periodo e non certo soltanto in Italia. L’orizzonte è quello oscuro e abissalmente introspettivo di band cruciali per l’epopea new wave come Sound, Joy Division, primi Killing Joke, Sad Lovers And Giants, U2 ma anche Depeche Mode, e fin qui nulla di particolarmente nuovo, siamo d’accordo, ma per sua e nostra somma fortuna, la band non si limita a rimasticare Interpol ed Editors senza introdurre elementi di particolare novità, al contrario la grammatica del post-punk viene dal gruppo assimilata e rideclinata con un gusto quasi sempre obliquo e personale.
